Book Club

Welcome to the boss business book club.

Pretty much everyone I know has “read more books” as one of their personal development goals. I love a good book. I find that if I get sucked into a good book it can really change my mindset or get me thinking in a new way! Passive development for when I’m too busy or tired to dive into some hardcore training – winner!

In the book club I’ll share a new book each month to inspire or switch up your thinking. This is a collection of the books that have influenced or inspired me to change my work behavior.

It would be amazing if you get involved by also sharing books that you have enjoyed along a similar theme and we can all learn from each other!

Just so you know, this page contains affiliate links so if you click on the links below and buy something I may make a little money at no extra cost to you, and I never recommend a book that I haven’t personally read and think will be useful. Enjoy

January 2020 – “You are a badass” by Jen Sincero
You are a badass - Jen Sincero - Book Club

I love this book. Jen talks about her own experiences getting out of a huge rut in her life by shifting her mindset and making some serious changes to go from totally broke to a successful author. This book is great whether you’re running your own business or working as part of an organisation. It inspires you to think about what you can achieve if you set your mind to it!

February 2020 – “Atomic Habits” by James Clear

Another great book. James is an expert on habits, and how making small changes to your life add up in the long run. He talks about the concept of marginal gains – what the impact of being 1% better (or 1% worse) each day would be. Then shows you how to hack your habits to improve your life on autopilot!

April 2020 – “The Joy of Work” by Bruce Daisley

It’s an unusual time for everyone at the minute as the country has been plunged into lockdown and our work lives have changed. Are you finding that your work life balance has been impacted? Are you struggling to see the positives in your new work environment? The joy of work gives practical tips for how to create more fun at work and how to find joy in the work that you do.

June 2020 – “Can’t Hurt Me” by David Goggins

This isn’t a business book exactly. But, if there is ever a book that will give you a sense check that you’re not living up to your full potential this is it. In the face of unbelievable adversity David defied the odds and achieved things most people don’t even dream of because they seem so unrealistic. A straight talking and inspiring read.

September 2020 – “Claim Your Power” by Mastin Kipp

A 40 day workbook to help you to live up to your potential. Mastin helps you to drill into what is preventing you from achieving your goals. He challenges whether things that you’ve always believed to be true are actually facts and whether holding on to them is actually holding you back. It’s a workbook for life and one that I’ll read every year.
